Delicious Diet Foods

Are you having trouble sticking to your diet plan? Do all these low cal foods just start to taste the same and you’re not sure if you can cram one more salad with low fat dressing down your throat again? If so, I’ve been in your shoes. I’ve eaten what I was “supposed” to eat day after day while everyone at work was having brownies and ice cream. But, I stuck to my plan. Sometimes, though, it’s hard to keep moving forward when nothing really seems to taste good and the results are so slow in coming. It’s not like saying no the brownies one day will give me 5 automatic pounds off the scale. Wouldn’t that be awesome?
But, before you give up and just throw caution to the wind and start stuffing your face with every rich, delicious food you can find, I have an idea. There are some foods that are pretty low in calories, but taste like high calorie foods. The trick is to figure out which ones you love and add them to your meal plans, so you’re not feeling so deprived all the time. A must have for every kitchen is the “Eating for Life” cookbook by Bill Phillips. This book is awesome and includes lots of delicious recipes that taste like cheat meals, but they’ll fit right into your healthy eating plan. My favorite recipe in that book is the Enchiladas. They are so delicious and definitely taste like high calorie, high fat food. But, they’re not really. The portion size feels right and I feel satisfied both by taste and amount that I ate after eating them. That’s just one example of a great recipe in that book, so I really recommend that.
Here’s a dessert that you might not expect to fit in with your meal plan. It’s Jello. It hardly has any calories and tastes delicious. It’s just what you need when you’re feeling like cheating. It’s great with fruit and you can even add some whipped cream which only has about 10 calories per tablespoon.
The truth is, if you’re careful about your portion sizes you can probably eat almost anything and still feel good about your diet.…

Simple Healthy Tips For Teens to Look and Feel Better

As a teen, you may tend to ignore suggestions from parents, teachers, and other nagging adults when it comes to health. You also ignore the signs your body sends warning of an impending illness. What you need to learn to do is heed your internal warning system and shut out the pressure from your peers if you want good health.
Warning signs that you are not eating healthy:
o Skin breakouts
o Fatigue
o Muscle weakness
o Lack of desire to do activities
o Lack of interest in physical activities
o Feeling like you always want to sleep
o Inability to focus on school work
Here are a few tips to change how you feel:
1. Eat breakfast… you may not think it is cool, you may not think you are hungry, but your brain and your heart think otherwise. Feed your body with good healthy food in the morning and it WILL make a difference in your energy levels during the day. Choose foods like fruit, cheese, eggs, or cereal. Avoid high sugar foods because those will give you a drop in energy half way through your morning.
2. Eat lunch… your friends may not think it is cool and you may think socializing at noon is more fun, but your organs and your bones don’t agree. Your body needs food halfway though your day and that means milk, protein, and healthy carbohydrates. Your afternoon will go better for you at school if you have had a healthy lunch. And if you are into sports, lunch is a must to provide your bones and muscles with the energy they need to perform at practice or the all important game. Sports drinks are okay too but look at the caffeine and the sugar levels. Sports drinks should supply you with the vitamins and minerals you need to supplement the loss you have during exercise.
3. Don’t skip dinner… teens need a balanced meal at the end of the school day to replenish your body with the nutrients for growth and muscle development. You need dinner, and the family time wouldn’t hurt either. If family dinners are not something common at your house, make yourself a good dinner, just don’t skip this meal.
4. Get enough sleep… another thing your peers may poke fun at. Teens need 8-12 hours of sleep a night to grow, learn, and feel good. A late night on the computer and text messaging your friends does nothing for your health. Don’t be ashamed to go to bed early a few nights a week. Your health may depend on it.
Do these things on your own without being nagged and you will be rewarded with feeling more energetic and less stressed. Maybe you can even pressure your peers to try it too.…

Are You An Extremist With Your Health?

Before you answer the question, let’s look at what the meaning of an extremist is. An extremist is one that goes to extreme measures and many times is used in association with politics. However, this word can also be used in everyday life, such as someone who is harsh, unreasonable, radical and excessive in not only their thinking but in their lifestyle.
Now that you know the meaning, would you consider yourself an extremist?
Believe it or not many folks are and don’t realize it. For example, there are individuals that will only eat or allow organic items into their home. Now I’m not saying that organic foods and items are wrong but an extremist will go beyond what is practical. They will go far beyond their comfort zone to live in this fashion. One thing I have noticed, because I am a people watcher and one that enjoys analyzing people and situations, is that these folks, especially the ones who take their diet, and eating habits to an extreme are – unhappy.
Let me say that again. The folks that are supposedly going to the extreme with their diets, their food choices, their cleaning products and clothing choices are unhappy. Why is that? Isn’t happiness what you are ultimately trying to achieve? Optimum health and happiness? Perhaps they are concentrating so hard on living a particular lifestyle that they forget how to live and simply have fun.
An extremist will go to unreasonable and radical lengths. They will go the extra mile for what they believe in. Which makes me wonder why they look unhappy. They exercise, eat organic meals, wear organic clothing, clean with environmentally safe products, use organic soap for bathing, yet they are unhappy. Of course I am not saying that everyone who lives this way is unhappy but the ones I have seen and I have seen many are not happy.
Perhaps because they are extremists in their way of thinking and living and refuse to allow moderation. A pragmatist is the complete opposite of an extremist. A pragmatist is realistic, sensible and understands the meaning of moderation. Are they interested in their health? Of course! However, they also want to enjoy life and believe that treating themselves to a piece of cheesecake every now and then won’t kill them. Notice the word ‘treat’? It’s okay to ‘treat’ yourself without feeling guilty.
That is what moderation is all about. In this crazy world you live in, it makes sense to be a pragmatist or you will go insane! Making healthy choices when it comes to the foods you eat, the activity you engage in and your entire environment should be something you truly enjoy. Some folks enjoy the organic living but many seem like they are trying too hard. Again, the choice is ultimately yours.
Are you an extremist or a pragmatist? Will you avoid food because it doesn’t come from a ‘health food store’?A Do you beat yourself up because you broke down and drank a milkshake? Do you find yourself reprimanding your partner or children because they not eating the proper foods? These are questions you must ask yourself and only you know the answers.
You know it is important to make healthy choices when it comes to your overall health. However, eating natural, healthy foods is only part of the equation. Engaging in physical activity is necessary for your body, to function at its optimum level. However, your mind is also an important factor that many tend to leave out. Living with a positive mental attitude is also part of your overall health. What good is eating the healthiest and natural foods if you are unhappy and miserable?
Waking up each morning with a sense of gratitude and thankfulness will help to create that positive mental attitude. Looking in the mirror and truly loving the person that is looking back at you is far more important than what you put into your body. When you love yourself and love the life you have it will emanate from every pore of your being. When you take responsibility for your own choices, you will be happier and also learn to make the decisions that are right for you.
So, the question is are you an extremist or a pragmatist? Are you happy with who you are? It’s never too late to make changes in your life as long as you don’t go to extreme levels and expect immediate changes, because then you will be right where you started.A Start implementing moderation into your life and watch it all change for the better.…
